Roman Reigns being forced to relinquish the Universal Championship because he was diagnosed with leukaemia obviously forced WWE to change its creative plans in a big way. For example, Brock Lesnar was offered a huge amount of money to return and Dean Ambrose turned heel sooner than expected.

Now, it's been revealed that the original plan within WWE was for Ambrose to cost Seth Rollins the Intercontinental Championship during a match with Elias, something which would have marked The Drifter's first title win within the company. Instead, WWE made Elias a babyface and have now pitted the two former Shield members against each other and the title will be on the line at TLC.

What was the original plan for the trio? Well, them battling for the Universal Championship certainly would have made sense and Ambrose being the heel in that equation would have made it feel fresh.
