Last September's Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales, was WWE's first PLE in the country since 2003's Insurrextion. It was also the company's first stadium show there since 1992's SummerSlam, but the event came at an odd time for the company.
Vince McMahon had just been ousted amid a number of sexual misconduct scandals and Triple H had only recently taken over as head of WWE Creative.
The card was mostly set in stone prior to the WWE Chairman's all-too-brief departure from the company, but Sheamus vs. GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship still managed to steal the show. It was a hard-hitting bout which ended with the Celtic Warrior receiving a standing ovation from fans.
Now, Sheamus has shared his thoughts on WWE wasting the momentum he had coming out of the match.
"I’m not upset about [losing] at all," he tells Daily Star. "I felt it was great, it was just the type of character Sheamus is, all fits and elbows. What I was upset about and what really bothered me was the creative after that. I came out of that with so much organic momentum, and it was just wasted. It didn’t go anywhere."
"It was a dead end, just like with WrestleMania. Drew [McIntyre] went away because he was injured, but I was ready to go and then just nothing. There were no avenues and nowhere to go and that’s frustrating. I did the WarGames thing but that was s*** – that’s how I felt, though others might have felt differently."
These are surprisingly candid comments, though this isn't the first time Sheamus has recently expressed his unhappiness with how he's being booked.
Even without Vince calling the shots, it's apparent there are still those within the company who remain unhappy with their position, a surprise seeing as Sheamus and Triple H are good friends. However, at this point, it seems WWE doesn't view Sheamus as anything more than a midcard talent.
