Michael Cole has been part of WWE since 1997, and while his on-screen persona has often divided fans in the past, there's no denying that he's very good at what he does. Now, it's been confirmed by PW Insider that the longtime WWE announcer and former backstage interviewer has landed a big promotion.
According to the site, he was promoted by WWE several weeks ago and now has the new corporate title of "Vice President of Announcing."
While Cole calls the action on SmackDown every week and is now the company's primary announcer following WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross' departure a number of years ago. What a lot of fans don't know is that he has a significant role behind the scenes which includes helping with hiring talent, mentoring interviewers/announcers, and producing new play by play talent.
Despite this new corporate title, Cole is presumably going to remain on television for the foreseeable future (well, assuming that WWE remains on the air moving forward with this ongoing global pandemic). Regardless, this is definitely good news for WWE and should help improve what we see on television.
Cole called the action alongside JBL at WrestleMania over the weekend in the WWE Performance Center.
