There's a lot of uncertainty surrounding a number of big events thanks to the Coronavirus outbreak, and during a recent TampaBay.com interview, Stephanie McMahon was asked about whether the potential pandemic could have any sort of impact on this year's
WrestleMania.
"The health and safety of not only our fan base, but also our superstars, really does come first," she said. "We don’t want to put anyone in a bad situation ever, regardless of the circumstance. Those are not risks worth taking."
WWE Executive Vice President of special events John Sabroor also commented. "Given the number of live events that (WWE) does, it’s constantly monitoring global events. There are active and ongoing discussions at play internally, like there are in any sector of American business, and certainly families as a whole. So I think those will continue."
It sounds like it's very much going to be a case of waiting and seeing over the coming weeks, but it seems unlikely that WrestleMania will be cancelled unless things get considerably worse. If we reach that point, all sporting events will likely take place in front of empty arenas, not just WWE ones.
New Japan Pro Wrestling has cancelled its March events, but the situation there is much different to the United States. However, WrestleMania brings fans in from all over the world, and that's something WWE - and the Tampa area - will need to take into account.
