This isn't exactly a surprise, but PW Insider is reporting that WWE is no longer set to hold this year's SummerSlam in Boston. The show was scheduled to take place at the TD Harden, but the COVID-19 pandemic means an event of that scale simply isn't realistic at this stage.
WWE had been hoping to bring fans back to show this month, but cases in the United States are going through the roof, and that likely means it won't be happening for the foreseeable future.
WWE has yet to confirm the news, but it's said SummerSlam will now take place from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday, August 23rd. This likely means that plans to redo the WWE Hall of Fame have also been called off, while shows like RAW, SmackDown, and NXT TakeOver (which were also scheduled for the TD Garden) are no doubt also set to happen in Orlando.
It was back in May that Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced that the city wouldn't be holding large gatherings like sporting events during the summer, so the PPV's fate was always in doubt.
We'll likely get an announcement soon, but it's hard to imagine WWE - and Vince McMahon - being happy with this news.
