This year has seen what appears to be a dramatic decrease in original content on the WWE Network and we can now add one more casualty to the list. On the latest edition of their podcast, Edge and Christian confirmed that their series is not going to be brought back despite the fact that material for it has already been shot. Why? Budget cuts, apparently!
This feels like a huge blunder on WWE's part, especially when the Edge and Christian Show was one of the company's most enjoyable and funny efforts (and a lot more compelling that Ride Along and Table for 3). Here's what Edge had to say about the cancellation and why the chances of us seeing another season of the duo's antics has now decreased dramatically.
"Probably not. Just because I think our show is too expensive for them. From a timing perspective, I think it’s going to be a hard. We wrote an entire season, started to film it, got some really good stuff in the can, but I think with the Network cutbacks I don’t think it’s going to happen. I don’t think if they can do it or if we can do it just in terms of other work. But you never know."
Christian was quick to add that this news is "TBD" and Edge also echoed that sentiment. However, while it sounds like they're keeping the door open to the show returning, chances are it won't especially as things in WWE change so quickly and anything they shot over WrestleMania is now likely to be very out of date and definitely not as relevant as it once was.
Is this news a sign the WWE Network is in trouble? Probably not, but they're likely to start haemorrhaging subscribers without fresh content like the Edge and Christian Show!
