Opening tag match aside, WWE Battleground was a disappointing PPV all-round, but perhaps the most surprisingly dull bout was AJ Styles VS. Kevin Owens for the US Championship.

Most of us assumed this would be the match of the night, but it was a pedestrian affair with a seriously underwhelming and awkward-looking finish, that looked like it might have actually been a botch. As it turns out, there's a very good reason for this.

Apparently, The Phenomenal One was originally supposed to retain his title, but Vince McMahon decided at the very last minute to have KO go over instead. How last-minute? Like after the PPV had already started last-minute.

Why is anyone's guess, but he's Vince McMahon dammit, so what can ya do? It does set up an ongoing feud between these great Superstars, but after their Battleground match there's going to be a lot of fans lukewarm on that prospect.
