There have been rumours doing the rounds that John Cena is set to make his WWE return on the July 16 edition of SmackDown (the first WWE show, aside from WrestleMania, in quite some time to take place in front of a crowd).
Now, according to Dave Meltzer, the leader of the Cenation's return is being discussed, so there is some merit to the rumours. However, as of right now, it's unclear whether a deal has been reached between the two sides...and whether Cena can squeeze that into his busy acting schedule.
WWE will have to pull out all the stops to make this a big show, and the pressure will definitely be on to do a bigger than normal rating (we recently learned that FOX is keen for SmackDown to have a crowd in attendance again).
Yesterday, the company announced that WWE will return to live event touring with a 25-city schedule through Labor Day. The tour will debut this July in Texas with a trio of shows: SmackDown, Money in the Bank, and RAW. Additional dates and locations are expected to be announced, but those will all take place in Texas.
Cena last wrestled during the cinematic Firefly Funhouse match that took place during last year's WrestleMania from the WWE Performance Center. It's likely this would be a one-off appearance instead of something that sets up a match (unless Cena intends on competing at SummerSlam).
