Earlier this week, it was revealed that Chris McCumber is no longer the President of NBC Universal’s USA and SyFy Networks, a move which could lead to seismic changes for the network. When it comes to WWE, it's no secret that he's been a big ally to the company and in charge of the USA Network since 2011.
Now, it's unclear what, if anything, this will mean for WWE. If the next network President doesn't feel RAW and NXT are worth the money, then WWE could find itself "cancelled" and in need of a new home.
Interestingly, Dave Meltzer has reported in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that McCumber was a big supporter of Paul Heyman and that he was unhappy when WWE decided to remove him from his role as RAW's Executive Director. Apparently, he was sold on the idea that ratings would slowly increase with the introduction of a new generation of stars.
That was Heyman's plan, but WWE didn't agree, and the focus in recent months has been on veterans again (with those future stars either buried or largely ignored). While the numbers have stabilised somewhat thanks to "ThunderDome," they're not necessarily in a place where the USA Network might like them...especially for the money they're paying.
We'll be sure to keep you guys updated.
