Vince McMahon decided on the card for this year's two-night WrestleMania much later than usual, and tonight's episode of SmackDown is expected to feature a significant change to one of the main events. Following the events of last Sunday's Fastlane PPV, it's thought that Daniel Bryan will be added to the Universal Championship match with Roman Reigns and Edge.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the reason for this singles match becoming a Triple Threat is because the WWE Chairman is concerned about the Rated R Superstar's age. Edge is 47, but it's not the number Vince is concerned about.
Instead, it's the WWE Hall of Famer's appearance. Seriously.
Meltzer's source tells him that the feeling within the company is that Edge has been "looking older each week" on TV since his return in January. As a result, that played a contributing factor in McMahon's decision to shake things up with the main event for the Universal title.
There's a lot of pressure on Edge as the biggest attraction at this year's Show of Shows (there's no John Cena, Brock Lesnar, or The Undertaker), and with a strong opponent like Reigns, McMahon may very well have felt that fans just wouldn't be able to take him seriously as a legit challenger for The Big Dog's title. He has, after all, seemingly failed to get over as a babyface since returning from injury, hence why he seemingly turned heel at Fastlane.
With no crowds, it's hard to say for sure, but throwing Bryan into the mix does make the match more exciting and, unfortunately, gives Edge someone to pin if WWE is looking to protect Reigns.
