After WWE was forced to move WrestleMania to the empty WWE Performance Center, there's been a lot of chatter about plans for SummerSlam. Considering one of the big four PPVs alongside the Show of Shows, the Royal Rumble, and Survivor Series, no one really knows what the plan is. However, we may finally have an idea.
While WWE originally planned to hold the show in Boston, MA, at the TD Garden, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has since stated that large-scale events will not take place over the summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier this week, the WrestleVotes Twitter account noted that a few different ideas are being considered by WWE, including pushing the show to September and possibly finding a new location in Boston. However, in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer explains that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is determined to have it take place in front of a live crowd.
While SummerSlam remains scheduled for August, it's said that if waiting until September is the only way to have a live crowd in the building, then the "thought is he would make that move but it is not a move decided on and he hasn’t outright committed to it."
Bizarrely, Vince is reportedly changing his mind all the time and "sees the pandemic as something inconvenient."
That sounds like Vince!
