When Jinder Mahal returned to WWE, he did so as a babyface. However, it turns out that there's a good reason for that. As you may recall, he received a push back in 2017 which saw him break into the main event scene and become WWE Champion, and while that run was widely considered a flop, it was done due to a new TV deal WWE had in India.
Back in March, WWE and Sony Pictures Networks India announced a five-year extension which gives them the rights to RAW, SmackDown, and NXT. It also includes all PPVs, so WWE is back at trying to make an impact in the country, and that's the reason Mahal is being pushed.
Previously, the Modern Day Maharajah was a heel when he wrestled in the United States, but a babyface in India. Now, though, he's going to be a babyface the entire time, and once WWE is able to return to the country, the plan is to have Mahal headline those shows, The question is, will we see him challenge WWE Champion Drew McIntyre? Exploring their shared 3MB history certainly makes sense, but McIntyre is also a babyface.
It's now going to be interesting seeing how McIntyre is handled on WWE programming over the coming months, don't you think?
