Look Vince, I get that you think I’m some basement dwelling dork with no life. But five hours on some random house show? Na homie, it just doesn’t work like that. Pizza and beers don’t pay for themselves Vince. It’s just science.
So I skipped the Greatest Royal Rumble event. However, I did keep tabs on key matches; notably Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar. If you’ve magically traveled to the lovely Westeros over the weekend (and if you did then please hook me up), Lesnar retained the Universal championship, but in a controversial manner.
I rolled my eyes when I read this. Can we please just get this damn Roman coronation over with? It’s no secret that Vince still values Roman as the guy at the moment. I’ve stated previously why Reigns isn’t clicking as a babyface at the moment, no point in retreading that territory. I genuinely feel bad for Roman Reigns. The guy is a damn good wrestler and when allowed to not be John Cena 2.0, he’s pretty good at promos. However, creative’s booking continues to kill him.
However, since WrestleMania, Braun Strowman’s popularity has gradually increased. In fact, it still boggles my mind that Strowman isn’t the Universal champion at the moment. He’s universally loved by the fans, his matches are exciting, and creative did something to Strowman that they still haven’t figured out with Reigns; they made him a likable character. Sure, he’ll probably try to attempt to murder someone again (and who hasn’t?), but that’s apart of Strowman’s charm. It makes him unique. Strowman isn’t trying to be John Cena 2.0 or even anyone else.
So why is Vince and company ignoring this?
Why can’t Braun Strowman be the guy right now?
I don’t know, I’m not in on the wrestling business so maybe there’s something I’m missing. I get that Reigns is at the #2 spot in terms of merchandise. But he’s fighting AJ Styles for that spot. To be fair, AJ Styles is phenomenal. They even turned the guy heel back in 2016 and his heel turn made him even more popular.
Why doesn’t Vince see the possibilities of Roman Reigns turning heel?
The New Day were hated when they first arrived as a babyface group. When these guys turned, by Summerslam they were arguably the hottest and most popular act in the company (as heels). There’s several other examples of a wrestler turning heel and the turn actually made the wrestler popular.
So why does Vince continue to fight the fans?
Why can’t Braun Strowman be the face of the company right now?
Why does it have to be Roman Reigns at this exact moment?
Only Vince McMahon knows. I clearly know nothing. At the end of the day, I’m just some dork behind a keyboard.
