It's become the norm for WWE to inflate WrestleMania attendance figures, but this year's Show of Shows was an event like no other. For the first time in over a year, the sports entertainment giant welcomed fans back to one of their events, but how many of them were really in attendance?
Now, it's been confirmed that there were 40,806 individual ticket sales for WrestleMania 37, but WWE previously announced that attendance was 25,675 on "Night 1" and 26,675 on "Night 2." Something doesn't add up, right? Well, in reality, "Night 1" was attended by 18,328 fans, while "Night 2" had 18,924 people in attendance.
This means that the PPV was not a legit sellout on both nights, though these numbers are still high and proof perhaps that the pandemic hasn't dampened the enthusiasm of wrestling fans for live shows.
It's worth noting that there were at least 3000 tickets on both nights that were sold, but never scanned at the gates. This is likely because scalpers bought them to sell on the secondary market for inflated prices, but were unable to shift them in time. Despite that, WWE still managed to gross $6.2 million in total for WrestleMania, a solid enough result.
Travel restrictions limited the number of people who could be part of the Showcase of the Immortals, and that was reflected in the reduced ticket prices (the average price was $190 compared to upwards of $250 in previous years).
The plan for next year's WrestleMania is for the PPV to take place over one night instead of two.
