It's been confirmed this evening that
WrestleMania is moving forward as scheduled...for now. With three weeks to go until the PPV takes place, officials in Tampa, Florida, have decided that it's too soon to postpone an event which will bring millions of dollars into the city.
"We came to the conclusion that at this point, we don't want to pull that plug," Hillsborough Commissioner Les Miller says. "We wanted to give it at least a week to see what was going to happen, if WWE was going to do anything at all. If they don't, at that point, I will suggest we come together for an emergency meeting to discuss what we do at that particular point in time."
Now, the plan is for WWE and local officials to reconvene next week to discuss the matter depending on what happens with the Coronavirus (which has now been declared a pandemic by WHO).
Tampa Mayor Jane Castor and city officials have cancelled weekend events in the area, but WrestleMania has the advantage of being weeks away. County Attorney Paul Johnston added that any executive order that they issue is for seven days, so they would have to re-issue it twice to postpone or cancel WrestleMania.
"Any emergency order that this Board institutes only has a life of seven days, so we're going to have to extend it at least two more times between now and WrestleMania so you have time to consider it," he explained.
We'll let you guys know if and when we hear more!
