Nearly 20 years ago in 1998, AJ Styles made his prowrestling debut. Since then, Styles has wrestled in WCW, TNA, NJPW, ROH, and of course WWE. Styles is known by many for his long tenure in TNA Wrestling, but gained alot of buzz after leaving TNA three years ago. Styles mainly wrestled in New japan Pro-Wrestling and Ring of Honor and was the leader of one of the most popular factions in wrestling today, The Bullet Club. Styles officially debuted in the WWE in January 2016 after his fantatsic match with Shinsuke Nakamura at Wrestle Kingdom 10.
Styles has nearly done it all in the wrestling business, so the possibility of retirement was immenent mostly due to his age (he's 40) and for the fact that it might be hard for him to maintain his wrestling style these days. During his interview with 97.9, Styles discusses how "it sucks" that it gets harder to maintain his wrestling style with his age. Despite his success in the WWE so far, he admitted that he is looking at retiring in the not-so-distant future.
When Styles was asked if his family gets angry with how much he's on the road, he noted that he's been married for 17 years, and his wife has been getting mad at him the entire time. He talked about having four children and often having to discipline them over the phone, but that will change "in a couple of years."
"Work hard now, you enjoy it later," Styles said. "In a couple of years, I'll be able to catch every football game, every baseball game, every basketball game, cheerleading, gymnastics, whatever they're in."
When the hosts stated that they don't want Styles to retire in a couple of years, he replied, "Man, I'm 40 years old!"
