Fans are divided about whether
WrestleMania should actually take place, and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has made a case for why the show being held in the WWE Performance Center isn't necessarily the best idea.
"WrestleMania, of course, it always been about the payoff has always been about, you know, those those great matches," he started. "But I always thought that WrestleMania was more so about the event, the spectacle for the crowd? The people to be a part of, for the fans. And to be a part of this WrestleMania? It’s going to be definitely something man that I’ve never thought I’d witness, you know, in my lifetime."
Booker went on to say that the PPV has always attracted some of the biggest names in entertainment alongside the fans who attend, and not having them there is something which could negatively impact WrestleMania.
"The stars come out, you know, Muhammad Ali, Frank Sinatra, Mr. T, Lawrence Taylor, Mike Tyson, you know, it was always bigger than life. Everyone, not just the fans. The stars want to be a part of WrestleMania and that’s something that’s going to be missing. I don’t know, perhaps maybe just move the date and try to ride this thing out? Maybe? I don’t know but know that that’s what I would do."
He makes some valid points, and there's no denying that this will be a very strange WrestleMania.
However, WWE really is in a very difficult position because there's no end date in sight for COVID-19, and the show must go on in the meantime. With that in mind, holding the PPV now feels like one of the only options WWE has as not even a postponement is guaranteed to happen. Cancelling the event altogether also isn't something WWE would ever do.
