Last night, the news broke that Gerald Brisco had reportedly been released by WWE. Dave Meltzer later commented on the news and said that the WWE Hall of Famer had been furloughed, and Brisco himself has confirmed that in a Tweet sent out a little earlier today.
Meltzer noted that he could be brought back, but it seems unlikely given his age and the way WWE has been thinning the herd in terms of how many people they're employing during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
For those of you who may not realise, Brisco has worked for WWE since 1984 and is considered one of the closest advisors and allies to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. It's believe he was in on the Montreal Screwjob, and many have viewed him as being untouchable in the company. As a result, even the fact he's been furloughed has come as a shock.
In recent years, Brisco has been used to scout amateur wrestling events for the company (he signed Brock Lesnar, Jason Jordan, and Chad Gable, for example), but with everything that's happening, it's clearly no longer the case.
