Over the weekend, Vince McMahon sent out a letter to WWE Superstars making it clear that the company owns the stage names of its performers and that "[it] is the control and exploitation of these characters that allows WWE to drive revenue, which in turn enables the company to compensate performers at the highest levels in the sports entertainment industry."
Later, it was said that WWE was banning Superstars from using third parties like Twitch and Cameo to make money outside of WWE, and if they were to continue to do so, they were at risk of being punished or fired. Now, there's been some clarification, and it seems WWE has backed down somewhat after the backlash which ensued.
According to Dave Meltzer, WWE Superstars were told before RAW that they can keep their Twitch and YouTube accounts...providing they use their real names (this contradicts what Mark Carrano told talent last week about them not even being able to do that). WWE received widespread criticism from fans, talent, and the media, so that likely explains this change.
There's no mention of Cameo, so it seems likely that we'll soon see Superstars leave that service (presumably because WWE has their own in the world. That would certainly help them recoup lost revenue from merchandise sales at live events and shows like Axxess being scrapped due to COVID-19.
