We're hearing a lot about various media events being cancelled, but as of right now, no major sporting events have been scrapped or delayed. As a result, WWE is planning to move forward with
WrestleMania as of right now, and they issued the following statement when ESPN reached out for comment.
"The health and safety of our fans, performers and employees are our top priorities and we are monitoring the situation closely with our partners and government officials in Tampa Bay," the company said. "We remain committed to hosting WrestleMania at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, April 5, and like other entertainment properties in the U.S., there are currently no plans to cancel or postpone our upcoming events."
You really can't blame for WWE continuing as usual, as cancelling WrestleMania would be a disaster and equivalent to the NFC pulling the plug on the Super Bowl! Still, with the coronavirus spreading, the Showcase of the Immortals could be a real breeding ground for that with so many international visitors.
In Japan, New Japan Pro Wrestling have postponed a number of shows, but the situation there is very different to what's happening in the United States right now. We'll keep you guys updated as we hear more, but hopefully things don't change with WrestleMania over the coming weeks.
