The murder of George Floyd by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has sparked outrage and protests around the world, and many organizations have come out in support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement. While WWE stopped just short of that, they did release a statement on Floyd's death, condemning racial injustice in the process.
"WWE supports an inclusive society and condemns racial injustice. We stand beside our Black performers, employees and fans around the world, and encourage everyone to use their voice to speak out against racism. We offer our sincere condolences to the family of George Floyd and the families of countless others who have lost their lives due to senseless violence."
This wouldn't be particularly surprising under any normal circumstances, but it's a well known fact that Vince McMahon is friends with Donald Trump, so nobody really expected WWE to get involved. The company does employ a lot of black men and women, however, and most likely felt compelled to show them support.
Whatever the reason, WWE should be commended for this. It may seem like a small gesture, but when so many other prominent promotions and organizations have remained silent, it does mean a lot.
