WWE May Have Had Big Plans For The Bludgeon Brothers Before Erick Rowan's Injury

As expected, The Bludgeon Brothers weren't actually supposed to lose the SmackDown Tag Team Championships this week and the title change did indeed occur because of Erick Rowan's bicep injury. With him undergoing surgery this week, the team's future is somewhat unclear but Mike Johnson is reporting that WWE actually had big plans for the team before he was unfortunately put on the shelf.

"I was told that there was a larger role planned for The Bludgeon Brothers coming out of the pay-per-view," he explains. "I don’t know what it was but the injury is why they did the tag title switch." It's hard to say who might have ultimately dethroned the team if not The New Day but whatever plans WWE had for the formidable duo have now been put on hold for the foreseeable future.

As is always the case in WWE, bad news for one is good news for another and The New Day now have another tag team title reign ahead of them. Whether or not WWE might now consider giving Luke Harper a well-deserved singles run remains to be seen but that's a better option than leaving him on the sidelines with Rowan.
