Back when he was part of The Shield, Roman Reigns was one of the most popular Superstars in WWE. However, his singles push did not get off to a strong start and fans quickly turned on him, especially after his Royal Rumble win back in 2015. There have been moments when they started rooting for the former WWE World Champion, but for the most part, he's consistently booed out of the building.
Despite that, Reigns has a lot of supporters and is definitely a draw in terms of ticket sales and merchandise. Now, in a new interview ahead of his epic clash with The Undertaker at WrestleMania, the RAW Superstar weighed in on those boos and explained why they don't get to him.
"Sometimes [I get booed], yeah. I think any fan would agree that it’s about what they want. For me it’s about them showing up and doing what they want and having fun, and if that entails booing me, then please. Pile in baby, I’m a grown man, I got kids, I can handle it.
[In person], it’s all love. I’ve never met a hater in real life. Everybody is nothing but kind. They want to take pictures, they want an autograph, everyone is great in real life. It’s just whatever it may be, if they love to hate me, if it’s the cool thing, but the cool thing about us is we’re a family show at it gives us a wide range of different people. We have grown men, we have young men, we have grown women, we have young women, we have kids."
John Cena is another polarising figure, but the hatred towards Reigns and what many perceive to be an underserved push appears to be far more intense. Should he wind up defeating The Undertaker on the Grandest Stage of Them All, the reaction to Reigns could worsen and that long rumoured heel turn could be the only thing which saves him from being booed for the rest of his career!
