Back in March, we learned that WWE Superstar Sonya Deville had been arrested for gun possession in New Jersey after authorities discovered a firearm in her vehicle that didn't have the appropriate permit.
While the gun was registered in Florida, it wasn't registered in New Jersey, so you can see how that would cause a problem. The incident took place on February 19 in Atlantic City when a valet discovered the weapon in her car's glove box and called the police (why he was snooping in there has yet to be determined).
The cops soon showed up and arrested Deville shortly after. As a result, she was charged with one count of unlawful weapon possession - handgun without permit.
Today, we have an update on the situation. According to the Courier Post, the WWE Superstar has now resolved the charge after completing six months in a pretrial intervention program late last month. It was back in May when Superior Court Judge Bernard DeLury Jr. approved her entry into the program.
It's said that this sort of handling of the situation is "routine in cases with this fact pattern."
Why did Devill have a gun in her possession?
Well, it goes back to a 2020 incident which saw a 24-year-old man attempt to kidnap and potentially kill Deville after breaking into her and Mandy Rose's home at the time. He pled guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and we can't fault the WWE Superstar for attempting to protect herself after an incident like that.
Deville isn't believed to have any heat backstage in WWE for the incident and is currently sidelined after suffering a torn ACL back in August. As a result of the injury, she's expected to be on the shelf for anywhere between 9 - 12 months.
After getting engaged earlier this year, Deville reflected on how she accidentally came out while auditioning for WWE Tough Enough. "One of the questions from the higher-ups in the audition process was, 'Are you in a relationship?,' which is a pretty straightforward question to most," she recalled. "I was not really out and open about my sexuality at the time, but I did have a girlfriend."
"I got nervous, but I told the truth and I was like, 'Oh, yeah, I have a girlfriend.' That’s how it happened. It was something that was super unintentional."
Stay tuned for more on Deville as we have it. We wish her a speedy recovery!
