CM Punk is still expected to headline the new AEW Collision show when it launches on TNT on June 17, and we recently learned that the Best in the World has a specific opponent in mind for his pro wrestling return.
He's met with Chris Jericho and, according to Fightful Select, their get-together in Florida last month went well. A feud has been pitched between the two men and it sounds like something we'll eventually see play out.
In the meantime, Punk is said to be keen on working with Samoa Joe!
He's mainly been used on the Ring of Honor brand in recent months, and he and Punk have a history together in that company and in PWG. The last time they wrestled was in 2005, so bringing them back together for another match would be a huge draw for AEW.
The reason they haven't crossed paths in all that time is the fact Punk went to WWE after ROH and Joe chose to sign with TNA/IMPACT Wrestling.
What we don't know is whether this will be a one-off bout or a lengthy feud. Jericho is expected to be Punk's opponent at All In, though that also remains to be seen at this point. The true big-money match would be pitting the Best in the World and FTR against The Elite, but whether everyone involved would be willing is another matter altogether.
It's previously been reported that the hope is to separate Punk from those he's had issues with in the company, presumably meaning he would be the top star of this show and Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks would largely remain on Dynamite.
Despite that, the former AEW World Champion is expected to be featured on Wednesday nights from time to time as well.
