Kevin Owens fared pretty well when he was moved to the main roster, and his Universal Championship win was welcomed by fans. However, once he was done feuding with Chris Jericho, KO started slipping down the card, and we've seen him used in a very hit-and-miss fashion over the past couple of years.
No one could blame Owens for wanting to leave WWE at this point, but could he make the leap to AEW?
It looks a lot like he's teasing that! In a now-deleted Tweet, Owens shared the coordinates to Mt. Rushmore. Before signing with NXT, he was part of the Mt. Rushmore stable with The Young Bucks and Adam Cole, leading to speculation that he might be making his intentions to sign with AEW clear.
Owens also updated his Twitter profile to read "Almost There" as his location, so unless he's just having fun toying with fans, it could be that he's close to securing his release. While AEW has been scooping up a lot of talent lately, the former Universal Champion would be a huge acquisition for them.
In a 2018 interview, KO said he'd signed a 5-year extension, leaving him stuck in WWE until 2023. However, there's a possibility he could opt-out of that, similar to how Rey Mysterio had an opt-out opinion after eighteen months on his previous deal (it's feasible WWE would consider granting his request to leave too, especially as Nick Khan continues to make budget cuts).
We'll keep you updated as this one develops.
