We have a lot of reasons to hate COVID-19, but for wrestling fans, that Blood and Guts match not happening earlier this year really stung. The plan was for it to take place in Newark, New Jersey in front of All Elite Wrestling's biggest crowd to date, but the match was postponed when that event was cancelled thanks to the pandemic.
The plan was for The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, Sammy Guevara, Santana, and Ortiz) to battle The Elite (Kenny Omega, Cody, Hangman Page, and The Young Bucks), but a lot has changed since then, and so the match taking place as originally planned seems unlikely.
However, during an interview with 411 Mania, The Young Bucks' Nick Jackson hinted that the match is still likely to happen down the line. "We spent a lot of money building that structure. [Laughs] But the good thing about it is that at least we now have it. So, we can pull the trigger on that at any time."
"I feel like we are saving that for fans. I think that is the biggest reason we haven’t done it, but that is the biggest thing that changed, not having that match. Because if you look at it, the buildup too it was so strong and our ratings were going up and it was looking we were going to above a million for that show, and we probably would have but we can’t control what is going on around the world so I think that was probably the biggest change, not doing that cage match."
Honestly, saving it for when fans can attend shows again makes perfect sense, and it's good to know that the match concept isn't completely off the table. Unfortunately, with the way things are going, we may not get to see this one until next year sometime.
