Is Britt Baker done with AEW?
The former AEW Women’s World Champion was out of action for a good majority of 2024 due to injury. But Baker came back to a considerable amount of buzz when she was revealed as Mercedes Mone’s next challenger for All In. Sadly though, many felt that the match and feud was underwhelming. Still, people were excited to see what was next for the former AEW Women’s World Champion.
Baker disappeared for a bit again as she needed to recover from a strep throat infection. She was originally supposed to face Willow Nightingale for a chance to face Mariah May for the AEW Women’s World Title. That match was cancelled, but she came back and fought Serena Deeb and Penelope Ford. Her last match was on Nov. 13.
The 33-year-old disappeared from television again and some fans assumed that their might be some heat on the AEW star following an alleged confrontation with MJF and Alicia Atout backstage in July. In fact, the reports on Baker’s absence have claimed that Tony Khan wasn’t particularly high on the AEW star at the moment.
Baker has been taking side projects here and there, but there’s nothing major that’s keeping her off of AEW television. We’re deep into 2025 and there’s still no signs of Baker returning.
So what does that mean for the AEW star?
Well, according to Bodyslam.net, Britt Baker is trying to get out of her AEW contract. Reportedly, Baker signed a five-year deal with AEW in 2021, so her deal doesn’t expire until 2026. Add in that Baker has suffered a serious injury and Tony could tack on more time.
The report does state that AEW isn’t looking to release her anytime soon. There’s no clarification on whether AEW is planning to bring her back to television soon. Based on the report, Baker doesn’t particularly feel compelled to stay, especially since the division is vastly different from the time she dominated it.
There was a moment where Baker could’ve returned as Thunder Rosa surprisingly called her out for a hair vs. hair match at All In this year. But since we haven’t seen much of Rosa and Baker on television, it’s clear that the match is not happening. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Baker leaves as it does feel as if the division has passed her by. There’s still plenty of fresh names that Baker could feud with, but her future in AEW seems pretty bleak. Of course, that could change after All In. Let's hope that Baker can come back and add some depth to the mid card/upper mid card scene.
