All Elite Wrestling has made the decision to suspend The Inner Circle's Sammy Guevara for saying he wanted to "rape" WWE superstar Sasha Banks during a resurfaced 2016 podcast interview.
The Boss actually spoke to Guevara and addressed his comments over Twitter, while Sammy issued a public apology. Nevertheless, AEW has announced that The Spanish God will be sitting at home for the foreseeable future.
"Effective immediately, Sammy is suspended without pay until further notice," AEW's exec Vice President Cody Rhodes said in a statement. "Sammy has agreed to undergo extensive sensitivity training and, upon completion, his future status within the company will be reevaluated. During his suspension, his salary will be donated to the Women’s Center of Jacksonville."
This is a somewhat surprising development, if only because Guevara and Banks seem to have reached an understanding, and while Sammy's comments were undeniably vile and tasteless, it was just a joke - a 4-year-old joke at that.
Still, AEW has to be seen to take action, and it wouldn't have gone down well at all if they'd simply chose to ignore the kerfuffle and move on.
