The show will be the first day of the annual G1 Climax tournament, where multiple New Japan stars will compete in Block A & B throughout the course of the summer. The winner of the annual competition will receive a title shot of their choosing at Wrestle Kingdom.

Liger has already announced that he’s set to retire at the Tokyo Dome in January 2020, what better way to go out then to main event the biggest show in the promotion and possibly walk out as the IWGP Heavyweight champion.
