The tradition continues.
Tony Khan has confirmed that Supercard of Honor will take place on May 2 from Adrian Phillips Theater at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. Tickets will be on sale starting March 31st.
The most interesting thing to note is that Supercard of Honor will not take place during WrestleMania weekend. ROH pay-per-views are always on Friday’s, so the company would jump start WrestleMania weekend with their big show.
Given the rumors about Tony Khan was adamant on his Busted Open Radio appearance in 2022 that he doesn't want to run an AEW show on WrestleMania weekend.
On running an event during Wrestlemania weekend: “I only know one way to do pay-per-view and it’s going 100% and doing the best you can. I promise to make that pay-per-view great. I know there are a lot of people who are going to be around the Dallas Metroplex area at that time. This is my first time going out there for that particular event weekend. It’s not normally something I would do, it’s not normally something AEW would do. It’s not something AEW would ever do and we’re not doing it.
The event had been scheduled in advanced by Ring of Honor and the tickets had been sold, I felt the right thing to do would be do right by the fans and have the show and make it the best show I possibly could, even though it’s unusual for us to go into enemy territory and run a show that weekend. It’s normally something associated with smaller wrestling companies and something I didn’t want to do. Since it was booked and the fans are committed to it, I’m gonna go in 100% and make it the best show I possibly can. I never expected to be talking about WrestleMania weekend and the logistics of the shows there.”
There’s no word on what the potential matches could be on the big show. ROH World Champion Chris Jericho, ROH Women's World Champion Athena, ROH World Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara, ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty, and ROH World TV Champion Komander are front and center on the poster, so it’s natural to assume that these title holders will be defending their belts that night.
Supercard of Honor is less than two months away so ROH has enough time to sell viewers on their line-up, which usually turns out to be a solid card each and every year. It’s a shame that New Japan isn’t involved with the Supercard of Honor shows anymore, but then the entire Forbidden Door pay-per-view would be pointless. Nevertheless, we’ll keep you updated when matches are announced for the upcoming show.
