A classic tournament will be held to determine a new Brave CF Flyweight Champion.
Back in 2018, Velimurad Alkhasov and Marcel Adur fought for the vacant title and the former managed to beat Adur via unanimous decision; however, Alkhasov missed weight, thus the flyweight became ineligible to win the belt on that night. Originally, the company announced a four-man tournament to crown a new champion earlier this year, but it was ultimately scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Now, the Brave Championship Federation will determine a title holder by running an eight-man tournament. The eight participants have already been chosen for the 125-pound competition, with the most notable being former UFC veteran Dustin Ortiz.
The 31-year-old has been competing professionally for ten years and made the transition over to the UFC back in 2013. Ortiz was successful in his debut against José Maria Tomé at UFC Fight Night 32. Following that match-up, the flyweight had more wins than losses in his UFC career, though Ortiz failed to beat big names such as Joseph Benavidez and Jussier Formiga. He was eventually left go from the promotion in early 2019.
Ortiz will be making his return against Marcel Adur in the first round. Velimurad Alkhasov will also get another opportunity at the belt as the Russia native will fight Flavio de Queiroz in the first round as well. Thus far, an official date and time hasn’t been set for the four tournament match-ups; however, according to MMA Junkie, the promotion will reveal that important information very soon.
