Saturday was not a good night for Aaron Pico.

The former Bellator fighter came in as a hot prospect that was highly touted throughout the build to UFC 319. Pico got the main card treatment and was given the ultimate test in his first UFC fight - an undefeated Lerone Murphy.

Many hoped that he would pull a Michael Chandler and deliver an amazing performance that showcased to the world just how legit he is, but unfortunately for Pico, he ended up being another Patrick Mix and Patricio Pitbull; meaning that the 28-year-old failed to get the job done in his first UFC fight.

The 34-year-old was put Pico to sleep in the first round with a spinning back elbow. Despite the devastating loss, Pico is looking on the bright side of the situation. The UFC newcomer has finally addressed his huge loss at UFC 319 and promises to come back sharper, stronger, and better.

“Last night wasn’t my night, that’s the fight game,” Pico wrote. “I’m grateful for my team, my family, and everyone who continues to support me. The supporters that have been there from day one and my new supporters, I see you! Thank you.

“Wins and losses both teach lessons and I’ll come back sharper, stronger, and better prepared. Thank you all who have sent messages and checked in, my health is well. Thanks for riding with me. My story is not over.”

It’s great that Pico is not losing his head over Saturday. Fighters lose. Not everyone can be Khabib Nurmagomedov. He still has the opportunity to showcase why many touted him so highly before UFC 319.

Pico made his MMA debut when he was 20! He actually lost his first Bellator fight against Zach Freeman, but he came back strong and won the next four of his fights. Though he never won a belt in Bellator, Pico was one of the standouts in the now defunct promotion. The report on his injury has yet to be released so there’s no telling how much damage he took, but hopefully be able to get back into the octagon soon.
