Going into his fight against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 244, Darren Till didn’t have the upmost confidence in himself.

The middleweight suffered two devastating defeats prior to his UFC 244 match-up, first against Tyron Woodley for the Welterweight Championship at UFC 228, and then against Jorge Masvidal back in March.

Despite his previous setbacks, Till managed to come in strong and defeat Kelvin Gastelum via split decision. During a recent interview with MMA Junkie, the 26-year-old talks about his confidence issues, noting that he considered faking an injury before his fight against Gastelum:

“I was trying to fake an injury before walking out. I was thinking of an injury to fake because I just simply did not want to get in there. This is probably a thing fighters don’t talk about. But you know me and I’m honest. That’s just where I was at. Now, I’m here. Confidence is back. Like (expletive) all these middleweights. I’m coming for everything. It’s back.”

There’s no word on when Till will make his return to the octagon, but it’s good to see that the fighter opted to continue on with the bout instead of letting his nerves get the best of him.
