On Wednesday, Colby Covington and Fabricio Werdum got into a dispute on the streets of Sydney, Austria. Covington was punched by the heavyweight and then a boomerang was thrown at his neck. Covington told MMA Fighting that he's looking to pursue charges against Werdum.
Werdum was issued a Field Cout Attendance notice for common assault and is expected to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on December 13, per the police.
In an interview with UOL, Werdum said Covington said “filthy Brazilians” as the two walked by one another. Werdum said he slapped a phone out of Covington’s hands and Covington kicked him, but Werdum made no mention of throwing the boomerang.
Covington denied kicking Werdum and said video evidence will back him up.
“That's a complete lie,” Covington said of Werdum’s explanation. “He wrote a check his ass can't cash. He's on video so all his lies will be told soon.”
The UFC said it would investigate the situation to determine if any Athlete Conduct Policy regulations were broken.
