This past May at UFC 237, the former UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion suffered a devastating loss that saw Jessica Andrade become the new queen of the 115-pound division.
Following the championship fight, Rose spoke to the media and strongly hinted that she may be done with fighting because she’s lost her passion for the sport (transcript courtesy of
MMA Fighting):
“I’ve been hearing that [there could be a rematch],” Namajunas said at the post-fight presser.
“I definitely was whooping her butt, there’s no doubt about that. I just kind of like, I don’t know, we’ll see if I’m still interested in this.
However, the former UFC Women’s Champion isn’t hanging up the gloves just yet, as Namajunas spoke on Ariel Helwani’s MMA show and confirmed that she’ll fight again:
After making those comments that indicated the end for her UFC career, Namajunas has finally addressed her future within MMA, and makes it clear that she isn't going anywhere just yet (transcript courtesy of
MMA Junkie):
“I’ll fight again,” Namajunas said on
Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.
“And you know it’s kind of one of those things where you get a little emotional. But it’s like I lost the passion for martial arts and fighting – mainly for fighting. I found my passion again. I went back to Minnesota to see one of my former coaches from earlier on in my amateur career, Greg Nelson. He’s just like a huge inspiration for me.”
Namajunas stated that she has a fight offer on the table; however, she never reveals who the opponent is. The 27-year-old says that she’s looking to make her return in February or March next year. Of course, the former UFC Strawweight Women’s Champion is looking to get another crack at the title, which is now held by Weili Zhang.
