On July 18, Joseph Benavidez will be competing for the vacant UFC Flyweight title and to hype up his championship match against Deiveson Figueiredo, his bout against former two-division champion Henry Cejudo has been made available for free.
Even though Benavidez failed to beat Demetrious Johnson at UFC on Fox 9, the flyweight managed to bounce back quickly and was on a strong five fighting winning streak before facing Cejudo at The Ultimate Fighter 24 Finale. During that streak, the veteran beat Tim Elliott (via submission at UFC 172), Ali Bagautinov (via unanimous decision at UFC 192), and Zach Makovsky (via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 82). His professional record at this time was 24 wins and 4 losses.
Cejudo was coming off a big loss to Demetrious Johnson for the UFC Flyweight title at UFC 197, which saw the fighter suffer his first defeat inside of the octagon. Before the devastating loss, Cejudo had wins over Dustin Kimura (via unanimous decision at UFC on Fox 13), Chris Cariaso (via unanimous decision at UFC 185 and 188), and Jussier Formiga (via split decision at UFC Fight Night 78). His professional record going in was 10 wins and 1 loss.
Still a newcomer in the UFC, Cejudo faced off against a man that has been fighting professionally for ten years at this point. Check out Benavidez hand Cejudo his final loss inside the octagon:
