Josh Emmett won’t be returning to the octagon anytime soon.
The featherweight had the best match of the night at the UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Volkov show, with many considering the bout against Shane Burgos to be a “Fight of the Year” candidate. So, it comes as a total shock that the 35-year-old actually suffered several major injuries 15 seconds into the fight.
The featherweight revealed a list full of injuries that he suffered during his encounter on Saturday, which was a complete ACL tear, MCL Sprain with partial tearing, Bakers cyst rupture, Focal impact fracture of femur on the lateral, and Chondral defect (cartilage) on tibia laterally matching impact area.
Based off the list of injuries, it appears that Emmett may have to get surgery, though the veteran hasn’t confirmed whether he’ll do so or not. Should Emmett choose to do so, then he’ll likely be out for up to ten months, his manager Jennifer Goldstein told MMA Fighting after an initial report from ESPN.com.
We’ll keep you updated on Josh Emmett’s health status when an update is released.
