Last week, the UFC welterweight posted on Instagram a message
suggesting he was retiring from professional fighting. As it turns out, that post may have been made out of frustration with the result of his fight against Jorge Masvidal and less about a desire to hang up the fighting gloves.
ESPN MMA reporter Ariel Helwani actually ran into Nate Diaz over the weekend and asked him about his retirement to which Diaz responded:
"Who said I was retired? I'll fight tonight."
This seems to suggest that Diaz is simply taking a break rather than leaving the sport for good. Prior to UFC 244, Diaz reportedly told ESPN that he would never call it quits on the fight game.
"I'll fight forever," he said.
"I'm never going to retire, that's for sure."
Exactly how long Diaz plans to be away from the UFC remains to be seen. After his loss to Jorge Masvidal, Diaz said in the Octagon that he wanted an immediate rematch. UFC president Dana White didn't seem too keen on that, however.
