Pedro Munhoz vs. Frankie Edgar has been scrapped for the time being.

At UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs. Ige, the former UFC Lightweight Champion was set to collide against the #7 ranked competitor on July 15; however, Pedro Munhoz tested positive for the coronavirus, thus he’s been forced to withdraw from the bout. Raul Lopez of MMA Fusion first reported the news.

According Ariel Helwani of ESPN, UFC officials are searching for a replacement for Edgar, though there’s no word on who could potentially face the MMA veteran.

Munhoz was looking to bounce back after his loss to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 238. Prior to the major setback, the bantamweight was on a strong three-fight winning, beating Brett Johns (via unanimous decision at UFC 227), Bryan Caraway (via TKO at The Ultimate Fighter: Heavy Hitters Finale), and Cody Garbrandt (via KO at UFC 235). Munhoz’s professional record currently stands at 18 wins, 4 losses, and 1 no contest.

While the fight won’t happen next week on Yas Island, the former UFC Lightweight Champion did wish Munhoz a speedy recovery and is open to facing the bantamweight sometime in the future.

We’ll keep you updated should Frankie Edgar get a replacement in time for the fight night show on July 15.
