Colby Covington vs. Tyron Woodley still won’t be happening anytime soon.
Back in May, it appeared that both welterweights were going to finally clash inside of the octagon; however, the match-up never came to fruition and both Woodley and Covington placed the blame on each other for the fight never materializing.
Since then, Woodley was beaten by Gilbert Burns, and any talks of Colby Covington vs. Tyron Woodley had died down. Suddenly, the former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion posted a contract stating that he signed on to finally fight the former UFC Welterweight Champion, with the UFC President himself confirming that the deal was legit:
It didn’t take long for Woodley to respond with the 38-year-old stating that he’ll eventually fight the brash welterweight; however, he’s looking to recharge following his bout against Burns in May:
"My answer to whether I would fight Colby is eternally yes," Woodley wrote via text message to Ariel Helwani of ESPN. "At 96 years old in a nursing home it's yes! He said no six times and now creates a date that works for him? F--- out of here. I literally treated it like every other bluff and told them quit contacting me until this b---- signed a bout agreement. Never thought he would sign. September/October, I'll get around to exterminating that roach. Let me call the UFC and see what's crackin."
Will we ever see Tyron Woodley vs. Colby Covington? That question will remain unless the two welterweights finally step into the octagon.
