2017 has been a middle of the road year for the UFC. With Connor McGregor venturing outside the octagon and Rhonda Rousey most likely not returning, the company has been lacking much buzz throughout most of the year. UFC 217 is the most memorable show for the company this year, as we got three shocking victories and generally a great night of fighting.
Was UFC 219 better than 217? Well, no. Not a terrible show by any means, but nothing you need to go out of your way to see.
Khabib Nurmagomedov put on a strong showing against Edson Barboza and has proven to the world that he does indeed deserve another chance at the Lightweight title. Whether it’s against Conor McGregor or interim champion Tony Ferguson, it’s sure to be an entertaining fight regardless.
And in the main event, Cris Cyborg defeated Holly Holm in a really good showing by both women. I never believed that Holm was going to defeat Cyborg as easily as she did Rousey, but I knew Cyborg would be in for a tough fight. A fun main event that capped off a decent pay-per-view. Happy New Year’s to everyone!
