Unfortunately, UFC has made some changes to the roster.
Dana White isn’t afraid of making cuts to his roster. Though there were questionable fighters who overstayed their welcome in the past (BJ Penn and Tony Ferguson had more than six losses straight before Dana let them go), the UFC CEO generally has no issue getting rid of a guy or girl if he doesn’t feel that their future is bright in UFC. That’s the case for Seung Woo Choi, Diana Belbita and Istela Nunes, the last two names are fresh off of loses at UFC Vegas 105.
Beltbita made her UFC debut in 2019 and immediately lost her bout against a now retired Molly McCann. It didn’t get much better for the 28-year-old as Belbita only won 2 out of her 8 UFC fights.
Coming into her bout against Dione Barbosa, Beltbita was already on a two-fight losing streak. However, it shouldn’t have been a surprise that Diana was cut as the flyweight announced her retirement a day after the official releases were made public. Diana Belbita ends her UFC career with a record of 2 wins and 8 losses. Her overall professional record is 15 wins and 10 losses.
Nunes came in with a worse streak. Going into her bout against Loma Lookboonmee, Nunes was on a four-fight losing streak. In fact, the former ONE Championship fighter was still searching for her first UFC win. Her loss to Lookboonmee was the final nail in her coffin and leaves the promotion with a record of 0 wins and 5 losses. Overall, her professional record stands at 6 wins and 5 losses.
Seung Woo Choi came into the UFC with tons of hype, but that was immediately squashed with his losses to Movsar Evloev (UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Oleinik) and Gavin Tucker (UFC 240).
However, Choi displayed some hope as a top featherweight contender when he went on a solid three-fight winning streak against Suman Mokhtarian, Youssef Zalal, and Julian Erosa. Choi would go on to lose the last five of six fights, with his loss to Kevin Vallejos in March being the final straw. His UFC record is 4 wins and 7 losses. He leaves the UFC with an overall professional record of 11 wins and 8 losses.
There’s no word on where Nunes and Choi will go next.
