KENTA is officially the No. 1 contender for the IWGP United States Championship.

This past weekend, the New Japan Cup USA tournament concluded with the former NEVER Openweight Champion beating David Finlay in the finals.

The Bullet Club member aggressively attacked Finlay throughout the match-up thanks to his dangerous strikes; however, Finlay was able to hold his own thanks to his experience inside of the ring. Notably, Finlay continuously escaped the GTS throughout the bout and came close to winning after the Last Shot.

The bout ultimately came to an end when Finlay tried to connect with his finisher, Shiranui. KENTA countered and finally hit Go To Sleep for the three count. KENTA will officially challenge Jon Moxley for the IWGP United States Championship, though the date has yet to be determined.

However, Jeff Cobb may end up shattering those plans as the 38-year-old attacked KENTA following his big victory and sent the message that he was coming after the Bullet Club member. KENTA got a dirty win over the NJPW star in their semi-finals match-up. It’s not confirmed that the two will be fighting for the contendership spot, but with no set date for the title match then it’s likely that the two talents will be feuding until Moxley can make his NJPW return.
