Two titles changed hands at Resurgence.
Before the big Backlash show on Saturday, New Japan Pro-Wrestling held there own big event in the United States and it featured the return of Bea Priestley and The Good Brothers (Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson) and several big title changes. It also confirmed that Hirooki Goto will defend the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Shingo Takagi at Dominion.
The first was the NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team titles as the United Empire gained another set of belts. Callum Newman and Great-O-Khan currently hold the IWGP Tag Team titles, and now, TJP & Templario hold the STRONG Openweight tag titles. TJP is no stranger to holding tag team gold as he’s a former three-time IWGP Junior Tag Team Champion, but this is Templario first run with any New Japan belts.
The second title change saw Mercedes Mone drop one of her 25 belts. The CEO had a triple threat match against AZM and AEW’s newest acquisition, Mina Shirakawa, and AZM managed to get the win and become the fifth NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion. That effectively ended Mone’s run at 313 days and four successful title defenses.
