During last night's episode of NXT, the Hardy Boyz made their first WWE appearance together since 2019. The show saw the No Quarter Catch Crew team of Tavion Heights and Myles Bourne call out TNA World Tag Team champions Matt and Jeff Hardy.
They challenged the WWE icons to a title match on next week's NXT, prompting the Hardy Boyz to respond with a confident "yes."
NXT Tag Team champions Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer and Axiom) were also present when No Quarter Catch Crew issued the challenge. Matt and Jeff invited them to "pull up a front-row seat" to the match, a strong indication that the plan is to eventually build to a match between the two teams on WWE television.
You'll recall that the Hardys and Fraxiom previously crossed paths on TNA, meaning this bout has likely been in the works for a while.
While NXT Roadblock on March 11 seems a likely destination for that, we'd bet on it taking place during WrestleMania weekend at NXT Stand & Deliver.
Check out the promo below along with Triple H's reaction to Matt and Jeff's WWE return.
"For sure," Jeff recently said about a possible WWE return. "There’s never been a real heel Hardy run. I was so excited about that in AEW, but I know I own what I’ve done and it was my fault I really let Matt down with the whole AEW thing. I’m so glad to be back in TNA and super excited, because TNA has been there for me in dark times."
"When I left the pro wrestling world in 09 and got in my situation TNA employed me, they supported me and oh my God, like I said earlier, 2012 is one of the best years of my career, I was from sobriety," he added. "I was doing really good, and I just eventually eased into that drinking alcohol again. It took a while, but it just slowly caught up to me. It got me."
Matt, meanwhile, has said, "That was actually one of his [Jon Alba, Extreme Life of Matt Hardy co-host] bold predictions, The Hardys will wrestle a match in WWE before the year is over. [How do you feel about that?] I feel good about that, that's one of the great things about working with TNA. They know that we do have a lot of love for WWE. They know that we would like to do the Hall of Fame."
"We filmed some content for WWE that'll probably be dropping pretty soon. I saw the Dudleys did it the day before us, and I know theirs just dropped recently, but we have a good working relationship with them. I think the perfect storm arose," he continued. "I think you could see us pop up even as TNA champs on some WWE show at some point. Who knows?"
Hopefully, this will lead to Matt and Jeff competing on RAW and SmackDown again. A WWE Hall of Fame induction also feels inevitable and we wouldn't discount the possibility of them being added to the class of 2025 alongside Triple H and Michelle McCool.
