Finn Balor's Demon persona was a hit in NXT, and while it didn't work quite as well when he reached the main roster, it remained one of the most over gimmicks in WWE. Now, Balor is again part of the NXT brand and he's set to defend the NXT Championship against Karrion Kross during tomorrow's NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver event.
It's arguably a fitting place for Balor to being The Demon back, but during a recent interview with ITNWWE, the Irish Superstar opened up on why he's not bringing that persona back...yet.
"For me, in this moment of my career, I feel like The Demon would be a step back," Balor explained. "I feel like right now with my ring work as the Prince, I feel very comfortable. I feel very controlled. And I feel that’s the direction I have to go at TakeOver. So I don’t wanna let anyone down. In the moments, there’s gonna be no Demon. But there’s gonna be the very dark side of the Prince that is gonna meticulously take apart Karrion Kross."
It's easy enough to see why Balor doesn't want this match to become a battle of who has the cooler entrance, and why he wants the focus to be on his in-ring work rather than a demonic persona.
We're bound to see The Demon again at some point, and Balor is just building up the anticipation for that by making us wait. When do you think the NXT Champion should unleash his darker side?
