In the first big surprise at Slammiversary, The Motor City Machine Guns made their return!
The duo hasn’t fought inside an Impact ring together since 2012, and is arguably one of the most decorated tag teams to come from the TNA era. While Shelley and Sabin only won the TNA World Tag Team titles once, MCMG had incredible encounters against Beer Money (James Storm and Bobby Roode), Generation Me (Matt and Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks), and Team 3D (Brother Devon & Brother Ray).
Both men did team together in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling, with Sabin and Shelley also winning the IWGP Junior Heavyweight and ROH World Tag Team titles during their tenure with both companies.
Sabin and Shelley answered Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz’s open challenge and the two teams had a thrilling fast paced match-up. This was a back-and-forth contest that highlighted both teams’ athletic and highflying abilities; however, the former TNA World Tag Team Champions put Dezmond away with a double team Michinoku Driver within 15 minutes.
Slammiversary won’t be the duo’s final appearance as MCMG challenged The North for the Impact World Tag Team titles this Tuesday’s episode. That should be one hell of a match-up.
