JDC shocked fans when he made his WWE return.
The 41-year-old had one of the best in-ring debuts in WWE as Fandango’s first main roster match was at WrestleMania 29. The former WWE star faced Chris Jericho and won! It seemed as if the evil ballroom dancer act was getting over with the fans as Fandango had a good section of fans by his side.
Unfortunately, Vince never pushed his gimmick beyond mid-card. He spent some time wasting away on main event until he re-invented himself with Tyler Breeze as a tag team. New life was brought into the Fandango act, with him and Breeze even winning the NXT Tag Team titles.
However, that wasn’t enough as the star went back to jobber status before his release in early 2021. Fandango/Johnny Curtis had been in the WWE for 15 years. But given his lack of star power, it felt as if he would fade from the spotlight following his WWE release. But the newly named JDC kept wrestling on the indie circuit and soon landed in Impact/TNA.
Then he got the call from WWE. The current TNA star detailed when he was asked to come down to Orlando and it sounded like a relatively smooth process.
"A few weeks ago, I was having dinner with my family, some friends over in WWE called and said 'Hey, can you be in Orlando for TV next week?'" JDC said. "I said 'Sure, of course.'"
JDC would end up having a match against Lexis King. Though the second generation star wasn’t particularly kind to the veteran, JDC had no problems putting over the up-and-coming NXT star:
"For the first week, I was a little trepidatious and nervous about people kind of remembering me," JDC said on "Monopoly Events" . "The Fandango music hit, crowd went...It gave me goosebumps. It was an emotional day for me, being out of WWE for four years. To go back...I was with the company for fifteen years. I did the promo segment week one, came back, had a match last week for the Heritage Cup. Really good match. Good to see everybody. [With] WWE, you see people every day. It's a routine. It's kind of like groundhog day. And then you leave that environment, come back, and it feels like everything's just kind of the same where you left it. Everything's kind of just...the machine keeps rolling on."
It’s unclear if we’ll see JDC back in a WWE/NXT ring, but you can catch the wrestler on Thursday nights with The System, which also consists of Eddie Edwards, Moose, Brian Meyers, and Alisha Edwards.
