UFC superstar and former champion Conor McGregor has once again found himself in trouble with the law. The Miami Beach Police Department confirmed that McGregor was arrested on Monday evening and charged with Strong Arm Robbery and Criminal Mischief, both felonies.
According to the police report, McGregor and the victim were exiting the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel when the victim attempted to take a photo of McGregor with his cell phone. McGregor "slapped" the phone out of his hand and then stomped on it "several times," the police report states. McGregor then picked up the phone, valued at $1,000, and walked away with it, the report concludes.
The incident, which was captured on surveillance video, happened at 5 o'clock in the morning. Detectives reportedly spent the day investigating before arresting McGregor at a Miami Beach home on North Venetian Drive.
McGregor's Miami defense lawyer, Samuel Rabin, told the Miami Herald in a statement that his client
“was involved in a minor altercation involving a cell phone that resulted in a call to law enforcement. Mr. McGregor appreciates the response of law enforcement and pledges his full cooperation.”
This isn't the first time McGregor has been in trouble with the law. The former featherweight and lightweight champion was arrested nearly one year ago for his attack on a charter bus carrying several UFC fighters during UFC 223 media day. McGregor threw a dolly through the bus window, injuring multiple fighters. He
was charged with two felonies but ended up pleading guilty to a disorderly conduct charge. His only requirements were three days of anger management courses and five days of community service.
McGregor returned to the Octagon in October 2018 after a lengthy hiatus in which he fought and lost to Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match. He fought Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight belt and lost via submission in the fourth round. A
post-fight brawl ensued, resulting in Nurmagomedov and McGregor
getting fined and suspended. McGregor was eligible to return as early as April 6 and
was in talks to fight Donald Cerrone.
With this latest incident, McGregor's future in the Octagon is once again in question. He
signed a six-fight deal with the UFC in September prior to his fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
